Attractions in Chandigarh




Chandigarh being the capital city of both Haryana and Punjab is a beautiful city in India. This city is known all over the world because of its architecture and urban planning.

The name of Chandigarh which literally translates into "The Fort of Chandi" was given because this city was established near a temple of goddess Chandi. This city was planned and built by Le Corbusier who was a renowned French developer and planner. Chandigarh attracts tourists all over the world. Some of the great attractions that will make your trip memorable are:

Rock Garden: This world class garden was designed by Nek Chand. Nek Chand was a transport official and he started this garden by cutting down small patches of land in jungle and then setting up stones around the little clearing. He further developed this place with all sorts of wastes and recycled materials. This park must be visited to see how things can be arranged in a very well established and orderly manner using discarded or waste material. There are special timings to visit this garden in different months.



Sukhna Lake: This Lake is located in sector 1 and was created in 1958. The lake is an artificial reservoir. It is a perfect place for jogging or for evening strolls around its banks. This lake has a proper walking path, a cafeteria where you can spend some time with family and friends and even an amusement park for kids. This lake has the Asia's longest river channel to go for rowing and yachting.



Capitol: Chandigarh's capitol complex houses the seat of the government. The credit of the awesome designing of the capitol goes to the one who designed this city, Le Corbusier. The most of the complex is fenced due to the very high security. The capitol and the bureau are only opened form Monday to Friday only. To have a closer look to the capitol you need to have permission from the Tourist Bureau.



Pinjore Gardens: These gardens are also known as Yadavindra Gardens, which are approximately 20 km from Chandigarh on the Chandigarh Shimla road. These gardens can be very easily approachable by busses or by trains. Pinjore gardens are made in Mughal style and are most visited by tourists to spend time with their family. It is a very popular picnic spot.
